About the Job:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients. This includes supervising the care and treatment provided by licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and other staff members on assigned units and shifts. The nurse will develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care for each patient, assessing and reassessing their needs as necessary. Effective communication with the interdisciplinary team is crucial, and the nurse will report any patient concerns or changes in condition to the supervisor and/or physician in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides and Coordinates Care: Assess the physical and behavioral health needs of patients, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain accurate medical records, and educate patients and their families about various health conditions while ensuring patient safety.
  • Assesses Patient Status: Continuously assess patient status and document pertinent information.
  • Ensures Nursing Treatment Plans: Ensure nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and complete initial treatment plans upon admission.
  • Takes Physician's Orders: Accurately take and document physician's orders, transcribe and review orders, and ensure legibility if taken verbally.
  • Administers Medications: Accurately administer medications per ordered note and document accurate counts of controlled substances.
  • Notifies Physician: Notify the physician of significant changes in patient status, such as difficulties with detox, medical emergencies, or changes in medical status regarding response to medications.
  • Supervises Self-Administration: Supervise self-administration of medications using safety initiatives and document and report effects of scheduled and PRN medications.
  • Maintains Accountability: Maintain accountability of administration, recording, control, and security of medications, including narcotics.
  • Completes Admission and Discharge Processes: Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed.
  • Confers with Treatment Team: Regularly confer with the treatment team regarding patient care, attend and participate in unit activities, and provide education/explanation to patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Monitors Patient Acuity: Monitor patient acuity, census, and staffing needs, and make arrangements for coverage as needed.
  • Assures Thorough Documentation: Ensure thorough and accurate documentation for all patients on each shift and complete patient assignment sheets daily.
Requirements:
  • Education: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience: One or more years of nursing experience within the clinical area of service provided by the facility, preferably in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environments.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable. Certified in psychiatric nursing preferred. CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required.
