Insurance Defense Attorney Job Description

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing legal representation to Progressive insureds and/or to the Progressive Insurance Companies before courts and arbitration panels in all aspects of litigation. This includes handling cases from beginning to end, preparing legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, and negotiating settlements. You will also work closely with clients and claims partners to prepare timely reports on litigation, ensuring all appropriate defenses are leveraged to reach positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Represent Progressive insureds and/or the company in litigation matters
  • Prepare and file legal pleadings, motions, and statements
  • Negotiate settlements and resolve disputes
  • Work with clients and claims partners to prepare reports on litigation
  • Assess the value of claims and determine risk exposure
Requirements:
  • Juris doctor degree or LLM and a minimum of 2 years general/auto litigation experience
  • Active license to practice law in California

  • $137,790 - $153,100/year salary
  • Gainshare bonus up to 40% of eligible earnings based on company performance
