We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to assume a pivotal technical leadership position within a team dedicated to enhancing Asana's Frontend Infrastructure. This team operates horizontally, directly contributing to and empowering fellow Asana engineers in a unified mission to optimize the speed and efficiency of our offerings. We utilize state-of-the-art web performance technologies and methodologies, tailoring them to fit Asana's distinctive infrastructure. Projects undertaken by the team encompass enhancing page load times, improving in-app navigation, developing data caching and prefetching capabilities, and implementing monitoring frameworks to ensure tighter service level agreements around product features.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a Tech Lead, steering the long-term vision and strategy for frontend infrastructure while influencing both infrastructure and product teams to deliver an enterprise-ready Asana.
  • Design and execute next-generation technical initiatives aimed at significantly enhancing Asana's performance for the foreseeable future.
  • Engage directly in complex and impactful performance investigations that may span the entire technology stack.
  • Become a recognized expert in infrastructure, collaborating with Area leads on long-term technical architecture and roadmaps.
  • Directly influence the satisfaction and productivity of our users, including both internal colleagues and external customers.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a seasoned technical leader who meets the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 6 years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in leadership roles overseeing initiatives and projects.
  • Proven experience in setting direction and leading large-scale initiatives across multiple teams or organizations.
  • Experience in managing projects that are full-stack, involving both frontend web application code and their backend counterparts.
  • Strong cross-functional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence teams to achieve effective business outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and delegation abilities to convey ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A passion for mentoring engineers at various skill levels, identifying growth opportunities, and providing constructive feedback.

Compensation and Benefits

Our comprehensive compensation package is designed to recognize the impact you have on our mission. We believe compensation should reflect the value you create relative to market standards. To ensure fairness and mitigate biases, we conduct annual pay equity audits.

The estimated base salary range for this role is between $248,000 - $316,000. Actual salaries will vary based on market conditions and individual qualifications assessed during the interview process. This range serves as a guideline and may be adjusted.
