Job Summary

Nightwing is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Springfield, Virginia location. As a key member of our mission support and technology development program, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop innovative engineering solutions from conceptualization to production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical engineering solutions, including product design, engineering analysis, and production drawings.
  • Work with vendors to fabricate prototype hardware and develop procedures for testing and documentation.
  • Prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews to communicate technical information to various audiences.
  • Support the Program Manager in handling technical, cost, and schedule requirements of current tasks, as well as contribute to the strategy and vision for future tasks.
Requirements
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Minimum five years' prior relevant experience in a Mechanical Engineering role or related field with a University Degree, or three years' prior relevant experience in a Mechanical role or related field with an Advanced Degree.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment, balancing multiple project tasks and types.
  • Proficient with material mechanics and engineering dynamics.
  • Experience with test planning, reports, and/or procedure documentation.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel to temporary assignments outside of the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area, with less than 10% travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems, automation, robotics, and/or sensors.
  • Ability to use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping with frequent integration/test cycles.
  • Passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Profession Engineering licensure.
  • Project Management experience.
