Position Overview

The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for overseeing and guiding the medical operations within the Department of Health and Human Services. This role involves a combination of leadership, clinical expertise, and strategic planning to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize, direct, and review the work of medical staff, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards.
  • Conduct patient interviews and examinations, reviewing medical histories and determining necessary diagnostic tests.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate medical facilities and coordinate emergency interventions with other healthcare departments.
  • Plan, organize, and evaluate comprehensive community health programs tailored to the needs of the population served.
  • Ensure compliance with community health services standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies for improving existing health programs and services.
  • Manage special projects in response to community health needs and public health emergencies.
  • Collaborate with tribal groups and community partners to promote wellness and health program awareness.
  • Advise the Community Health Director and other personnel on public health priorities and initiatives.
  • Determine staffing needs and manage resources effectively to optimize public health service delivery.
  • Supervise a diverse team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and health technicians.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited institution. A current, unrestricted medical license is required, along with at least one year of supervised clinical experience.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to public health principles. Experience in managing healthcare programs and understanding of budget management is essential.

Additional Requirements

Selected individuals must undergo a background investigation and meet all health and safety requirements, including immunizations. This position may require on-call duties and participation in ongoing training and development.
