Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our team at Psionic, Inc. in Hampton, VA. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing complex firmware and software systems for our lidar sensors used in autonomous systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-reliability firmware and software systems for our lidar sensors
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and architecture
  • Develop and test complex algorithms and software code for flight systems
  • Mentor junior engineers and oversee day-to-day development activities
  • Architect, design, code, and test complex FPGAs

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering (Master's degree is a plus)
  • Five plus years of overall digital design based electrical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience with designing and developing systems using microprocessors, microcontrollers, and FPGAs
  • Experience with high-speed topologies (1/10 Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, Fiber Channel, Serial Rapid IO or similar)
  • Proficient with serial communications (UARTs, SPI, I2C)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work alone or on a team setting
  • Experience with source control management tools
  • Fully skilled in MS programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio)

Desired Skills

  • Experience developing software code for flight systems using C, C++, and C#
  • Experience with Xilinx Ultrascale+ series of FPGAs
  • Demonstrated HDL coding experience with Microsemi, Xilinx, and/or Intel (Altera) FPGAs using Verilog or VHDL
  • Familiarity with signal integrity tools
  • Exposure to MATLAB and Simulink
  • Image processing experience (OpenCV, OpenCL or similar)
