About the Position

The University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking a highly qualified Graphic Design Faculty member to join our team in the Department of Art. As a Graphic Design Faculty, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in graphic design, typography, computer art, and foundations. You will also mentor students in the Communication Design program, develop curriculum, and engage in service to the department and university.

Responsibilities

  • Teach three undergraduate courses per semester in the Communication Design Area, including graphic design, typography, computer art, and foundations.
  • Mentor Communication Design students within the B.A, BFA, and Graphic Design Certificate Program.
  • Engage in teaching activities such as student advising, curriculum development, preparation of course material, facilitating critique of student work, and mentoring students toward academic and professional success.
  • Maintain a design practice and foster ties to the local and statewide design community.
  • Provide service to the Department of Art and the University, including attending faculty meetings, recruitment events, and on-campus exhibition openings.
  • Oversee adjunct instructors within the Communication Design area.

Requirements

  • Masters of Fine Arts Degree in either Visual Art and Graphic Design or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years college/university level teaching experience.
  • Evidence of creative and professional accomplishments with a trajectory towards developing a national reputation.
  • Specialization in graphic design, web design, typography, and computer art.
  • Secondary interests such as motion graphics.
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Keynote, Powerpoint, and After Effects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to collegiality, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
