The Motor Vehicle Operator is responsible for the operation and upkeep of vehicles on-site, facilitating the transport of goods and individuals for both short and long-distance assignments.
This role includes the timely and sanitary delivery of food carts to designated areas and may involve assisting in food service tasks when needed.
While this position does not entail supervisory or financial duties, it requires accountability for assigned vehicles, maintaining accurate records related to vehicle operations, and ensuring vehicles receive regular maintenance.
This role operates under the general supervision of the designated Food Service Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend work consistently and may be required to adhere to a specific shift schedule, which could include rotating shifts, extended hours, and/or overtime in line with agency policies while performing additional assigned tasks.
Operate various motor vehicles, including vans and trucks, to transport passengers, goods, and food carts. Physical demands include prolonged standing, lifting, and moving items exceeding 40 lbs. Capability to drive state vehicles with attached delivery trailers is essential.
Maintain and prepare records and logs pertinent to vehicle operations. Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions is necessary, along with basic mathematical skills.
Conduct routine vehicle maintenance, perform minor repairs, and refuel vehicles.
Ensure that daily operator maintenance is completed before, during, and after each trip, as evidenced by the absence of maintenance issues reported by the motor pool.
Verify that vehicle cargo/food cart capacity is not exceeded, and ensure that safety restraints are utilized by drivers and passengers, distributing cargo/food carts to maintain balanced axle loading.
Safeguard cargo/food carts and adhere to state and local traffic regulations, as demonstrated by a clean citation record.
Assist in the safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo/food carts.
Operate vehicle power lift gates, manual hydraulic forklifts, and dollies.
Support warehouse and food service operations, demonstrating knowledge of general cooking, food handling, and serving techniques. Ability to utilize cleaning chemicals and commercial detergents for dishwashing and floor maintenance related to food services and housekeeping operations.
Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include participating in disaster response efforts or supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, potentially requiring alternate shift assignments and/or locations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read time and adhere to a schedule.
Knowledge of traffic safety regulations is essential.
Skill in maneuvering large vehicles in confined spaces safely is required.
Ability to communicate effectively and positively with others.
Capacity to work in physically demanding environments and tolerate varying weather conditions.
