Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Deputy County Clerk to join our team at Ingham County, MI. As a vital member of our office, you will be responsible for processing and recording vital records, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring the accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vital Records Processing: Receive, analyze, and process vital records, including birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, and concealed pistol license applications.
  • Customer Service: Provide assistance to customers at the counter, by phone, and via email, responding to inquiries and resolving issues related to vital records and other office functions.
  • Record Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including filing, scanning, and retrieving documents as needed.
  • Notary Services: Provide notarization services for county residents and non-county residents, issuing notarial certificates as required.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Prepare reports for other governmental agencies, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal statutes and regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years' experience as a Deputy Clerk or equivalent experience is required.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and customer service skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Working Conditions

This position works in an indoor environment with no planned exposure to prominent lights, noises, odors, temperatures, or weather conditions.

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop/crouch, squat, kneel, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, grasp, handle, pinch, type, and endure repetitive movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
  • This position performs medium work requiring the ability to exert between 20-50 pounds of force.
