Facilities Operations Specialist II

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Operations Specialist II to join our team at the University of Texas Medical Branch. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for performing at a journeyman level in at least one distinct industrial/commercial trade craft, including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, structural, instrumentation/electronics, refrigeration, and electronics/fire alarms.
Key Responsibilities:
• Proactively maintain all aspects of assigned area of responsibility.
• Consult with customers on priority of work and assume full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns.
• Perform detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation and inform supervisory or managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies.
• Perform major repairs on complex systems and supporting equipment.
• Start up, shut down, and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
• Perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and within timelines.
• Identify maintenance needs and perform proactive repairs before breakdown occurs.
• Train and mentor new personnel in area of expertise as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed.
• Attend and participate in project designs, reviews, shutdowns, project meetings, final inspections, and commissioning.
• Support area shift coverage, on-call duties, and after-hours or extended projects as needed.
• Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness and complete all UTMB required compliance training.
• Adhere to internal controls and reporting structure.
• Perform related duties as required.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or recognized equivalent and one journeyman level industrial/commercial craft/trade as approved by Property Services Leadership.
• Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and frequent bending, standing, and walking.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments. May be exposed to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, may be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
