We are seeking a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer for Suppliers to join our Propulsion division based in Fairfield, CA. This pivotal role involves delivering supplier quality oversight for both the production of engineered components and commodity materials.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Supplier Management for manufactured goods, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, Continuous Improvement, Data Evaluation, Specification Assessment, and Inspection Techniques. A solid grasp of GD&T and Project Management, including team facilitation, is essential.

Exceptional communication, organizational, and time management skills are critical, along with a robust focus on quality.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Program Management and Subcontracts Management, to achieve and enhance established quality and delivery objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead supplier performance management by analyzing performance metrics, identifying improvement opportunities, and driving supplier development initiatives.
  • Proactively reduce and prevent defects in supplied materials while verifying defect claims.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in pursuit of performance enhancements aligned with departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Mitigate business risks associated with supplied material defects.
  • Review, coach, and accept supplier corrective action requests.
  • Conduct on-site supplier engagements, including performance evaluations, process assessments, and Quality System audits.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems requiring creativity and ingenuity.
  • Provide project management support and guidance for various projects and processes.
  • Utilize independent judgment in selecting methods and evaluation criteria to achieve results.
  • Lead initiatives within supplier performance strategies and enhance Supplier Quality standard practices.
  • Influence supplier selection processes.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.
  • This position requires on-site presence five days a week.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 6-9 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with manufactured products that include chemical, electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Experience in Supplier Management, Project Management, and Change Management.
  • Expertise in manufacturing Special Processes and related industry standards (Nadcap).
  • Proficient in conducting root cause analysis for moderate to complex nonconformities and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen.
  • Experience in conducting supplier audits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent presentation skills, capable of analyzing and presenting data to various leadership levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
