Job Summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Support Specialist - Overnight to join our team. As a key member of our residential support staff, you will provide essential support and services to our clients, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the night.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answering the telephone and providing assistance and information as needed
  • Documenting nightly activity in log books and rule infractions through incident reports
  • Coordinating and offering assistance to volunteers as they serve meals
  • Ensuring meals are prepared according to health department standards
  • Receiving and documenting donations and gifts received
  • Maintaining volunteer logs and paperwork associated with volunteers
  • Reviewing log entries for pertinent information
  • Attending staff meetings as scheduled
  • Determining client eligibility by verifying eligibility lists and clearance cards
  • Conducting intake paperwork on new clients
  • Assigning clients to appropriate beds
  • Conducting bed checks periodically after curfew
  • Checking clients in and out of the building
  • Packing client belongings
  • Ensuring the safety of clients
  • Enforcing program guidelines and policies & procedures
  • Contacting appropriate agencies when crisis intervention is needed
  • Preparing and serving dinner meals when not prepared by volunteer groups
  • Remaining on duty if there is a problem with the oncoming shift (sick employee) or until another staff member arrives
  • Preparing and serving breakfast meals when not prepared by volunteer groups
  • Ensuring the building is clean and sanitary at the end of a shift
  • Completing laundry by the end of shift
  • Cleaning restrooms as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Resident Services Director or Corps Officer
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision or in a team environment
  • Positive attitude in working with high-risk clients, volunteers, and donors
  • Dependability, honesty, and trustworthiness
  • Ability to obtain food service sanitation certificate
  • Willingness to become familiar with and support the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to pass a background check
Physical Demands/Work Environment

This position requires light to moderate physical work, including lifting up to 30 pounds. The individual must be able to remain stationary for some periods, use hands and fingers, communicate, move, and occasionally position themselves to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to focus. The work environment is an office setting with a low noise level.
