Wastewater Research Specialist

Position Overview
The selected candidate will take charge of executing or supervising investigative projects focused on wastewater management methodologies, either independently or in collaboration with fellow researchers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and supervise studies in sanitary chemistry, microbiology, and environmental engineering disciplines.
- Design and oversee technical initiatives for Maintenance & Operations and Engineering Departments.
- Draft technical documents and reports detailing research findings.
- Oversee junior staff and manage the division's financial resources.
- Coordinate assessments for contaminants in both environmental and operational contexts.
- Participate in seminars and public speaking opportunities related to research initiatives.
- Engage in Energy and Sludge task forces.
Additional Responsibilities
- Execute any other assigned tasks as necessary.
Working Conditions
This position may involve handling various chemical and biological substances, some of which may pose hazards. There may also be exposure to fumes and odors.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of wastewater treatment methodologies and practices.
- Expertise in water quality assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of analytical methods such as gas chromatography.
- Strong proficiency in statistical analysis techniques.
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations.
- Proven ability to lead and manage research initiatives effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Minimum Requirements
A master's or doctoral degree in relevant fields from an accredited institution, along with eight years of research experience in wastewater treatment, including supervisory roles.
Substitution
Advanced study beyond a master's degree may be considered in lieu of non-supervisory experience.
Promotion Prerequisites
- At least one year of service as a Principal Environmental Scientist within the organization.
- Civil service status as a Principal Environmental Scientist.
