Job Title: Transportation Engineer

Join the City of New York's Department of Transportation as a Transportation Engineer and contribute to the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to improving transportation in the city through various transportation studies and projects. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for collecting traffic operations and safety data, performing technical analyses and studies, and developing improvement measures to ameliorate congestion and improve mobility and safety for all street users.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze traffic operations and safety data
  • Perform technical analyses and studies, including intersection Level-of-Service (LOS) analysis, crash analysis, turning movement analysis, and speed studies
  • Develop and test improvement measures to address transportation safety and operations issues
  • Prepare written reports and graphic materials for presentations
  • Participate in community board meetings and provide technical assistance to agency staff
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
  • Proficiency in HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, AutoCAD, AutoTurn, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering principles, traffic impact studies; Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), MUTCD, AASHTO, and CEQR Technical Manual
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in executing traffic analyses, including collecting data using various statistical, planning and engineering techniques
  • Familiarity with roadway access management principles and practices, as well as the city's curb cut review processes and procedures
