Job Overview

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality assurance protocols and standards within the organization. This role involves overseeing the quality control department and directing research and development initiatives to support various business projects and quality requirements.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes and enforces quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications and current processes throughout the bidding, detailing, and fabrication/coating phases.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and industry standards, project specifications, and best practices.
  • Reviews upcoming projects to guarantee effective fabrication and welding processes, ensuring that quality control is fully informed of all requirements.
  • Participates actively in project and quality control meetings.
  • Assists clients and third-party inspectors to ensure adherence to quality requirements and project timelines.
  • Directs and manages quality control managers across all facilities to achieve quality objectives and production targets while addressing individual developmental needs.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
  • Develops and documents test plans and audits to track defects and non-conformance issues in product fabrication and welding processes, ensuring compliance with internal quality assurance manuals and client project requirements.
  • Implements established metrics to assess the readiness, quality, and operability of processes, equipment, and personnel, including tracking rework hours.
  • Creates and disseminates test and audit plans, manuals, and guidelines to optimize quality assurance performance, revising as necessary while maintaining document control.
  • Actively engages in mandatory safety meetings.
QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER (CONTINUED)
  • Manages and develops quality control inspectors, including those focused on painting programs.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for quality control inspectors and coordinates training, promotions, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to quality control inspectors.
  • Ensures timely inspections are conducted in accordance with applicable codes and customer contract requirements.
  • Maintains proper calibration and documentation of tools and equipment.
  • Ensures staff properly documents materials and processes.
  • Develops and qualifies welding procedures and PQRs.
  • Oversees welder qualification testing and maintains continuity logs.
  • Coordinates both in-house inspectors and external testing services.
  • Trains quality control and production personnel on quality-related topics.
  • Acts as the primary contact for external quality auditors and inspectors at the plant level.
  • Assigns and audits lead quality control inspectors for critical projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a major fabrication industry.
  • At least 2 years of inspection experience in a significant steel fabrication or erection company.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is preferred.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
  • Coordinates daily with executive leadership, shop superintendents, operations managers, quality control, and project managers to support their functions.
  • Reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and/or General Manager.
