Position Summary
The Nursing Director oversees the nursing program within a long-term care facility, ensuring adherence to resident care standards. This role is pivotal in enhancing the geriatric care process to elevate service quality and efficiency. The Director is accountable for the overall quality of care delivered by nursing staff and provides guidance to medical personnel, department leaders, and administrative teams regarding nursing services and strategies. This position interprets nursing policies and objectives for staff and community stakeholders, while also monitoring nursing operations to ensure compliance with both organizational and governmental regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Scheduling staff and conducting performance evaluations.
- Providing nursing care to residents as needed.
- Assisting in the creation and execution of marketing initiatives, community events, and media outreach.
Additionally, the Director manages the daily operations of the long-term care facility, focusing on:
- Quality of resident care
- Program and care management
- Environmental safety
- Budgetary constraints
- Addressing identified needs for regulatory compliance
This role requires effective delegation and coordination of clinical, operational, and managerial tasks to meet departmental objectives. The Director also maintains communication regarding the evolving healthcare landscape impacting clinical service delivery across the organization.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program is preferred, including but not limited to programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
For certain facilities, employees lacking a Bachelor’s degree may be considered for an educational plan demonstrating continuous progress toward obtaining a degree within five years of hire.
Five years of nursing experience is required, with experience in Housing with Services, HUD, and/or assisted living being advantageous.
Thorough knowledge of the nursing practice act and standards of nursing care, along with a working understanding of administrative and management techniques, is essential.
Must hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where practice occurs, or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Must obtain and maintain required department-specific competencies and certifications.
