Position Overview

Role: Mathematics Instructor (Middle School, Grades 5 to 8)

Compensation: Up to $50 per hour

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Principal

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and promote the institution's policies and educational standards as established by the Principal and administration.
  • Design and implement lesson plans aligned with the curriculum standards set forth by the school.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate student proficiency and tailor instruction to foster academic growth.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students, parents, and school administration regarding academic progress and objectives.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, school staff, and families to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school discipline policies to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Supervise students across various educational settings (classroom, playground, hallways, etc.) to ensure safety and positive engagement.
  • Engage in professional development and staff meetings to exchange vital information and enhance teaching practices.
  • Maintain accurate records, including grades, lesson plans, and communication with parents and students.
  • Facilitate Homeroom Advisory and Homework Hour, ensuring students complete their assignments in a timely manner.
  • Create and sustain an inviting and conducive learning atmosphere that reflects the educational themes being taught.
  • Keep an updated Substitute Binder for ease of access during unforeseen absences.
  • Regularly update grades and attendance in the online management system.
  • Contribute to the overall operations of the school, including program duties and class coverage.
  • Participate in school community events, fostering relationships with families and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a flexible and cooperative approach to collaboration.
  • Teach during the mandatory Summer Program as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Alignment with the school's mission and values.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid Delaware State Teaching Certificate for the relevant subject and grade levels.
  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience or experience working with students in an urban setting.
  • FBI Fingerprinting/Background Clearance is required prior to employment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills with parents, students, and diverse community members.
  • Proficiency in technology and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, operate a computer and other office equipment, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
