Maintenance Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a part-time Maintenance Assistant to join our team at the Office of Catholic Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment within our facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
  • Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Assist in maintaining the exterior of the facility by sweeping sidewalks, clearing snow, and ensuring safe entryways.
  • Conduct minor maintenance and repair tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and reporting more extensive repairs to the Maintenance Director.
  • Restock cleaning supplies, paper products, and soap in restrooms and other areas.
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for events and meetings.
  • Monitor and report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or other issues requiring attention.
  • Assist with general maintenance projects as needed, such as painting, minor plumbing, or carpentry tasks.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or maintenance work preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning products and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
Working Conditions:

The Maintenance Assistant will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be required to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
