Position Overview:
The Charter Oak's Culinary Farm is dedicated to cultivating distinctive, seasonally relevant crops through organic and sustainable practices across 3.5 acres.

Our focus is on effective market-farming methods, exploring new crop varieties, and maximizing the use of all edible parts of the plant's life cycle.

Through these practices, and with meticulous planning and collaboration with the culinary team, the farm provides year-round produce for the restaurant's hyper-seasonal menu.


Role Summary:
The Assistant Field Manager serves as a crucial support to the Field Manager and acts as a team leader on a daily basis, contributing significantly to the farm's operational success.

This role involves working alongside a skilled team to deliver unique, high-quality products to The Charter Oak and our various restaurant partners throughout the year.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Master all fieldwork protocols and standards, ensuring compliance in all farming activities.
  • Lead the crew or assist the Field Manager in executing and completing tasks such as planting, weeding, bed preparation, and general farm upkeep.
  • Maintain vigilant oversight in the field to identify and address any issues promptly.
  • Monitor crop conditions, equipment functionality, and the overall aesthetics of the farm.
  • Assist with harvesting as needed.
  • Supervise farm operations and crew in the absence of the Field Manager.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Fluency in English and the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and self-motivation are essential.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Aptitude for following complex instructions and directions.
  • Willingness to receive and act on feedback.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
  • Prior experience in gardening or farming is essential; management experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
