We are seeking a skilled Cloud-Native Developer Advocate to join our team at VDart Inc. in Irving, Tx (Remote).

This full-time and contract role offers an estimated salary of $120,000 - $180,000 per year.

Job Description

As a Cloud-Native Developer Advocate, you will be responsible for designing and developing an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that empowers application teams with self-service capabilities for application onboarding, namespace creation, and resource management.

You will integrate and customize developer portals (e.g., Backstage, Port) to provide a unified platform for app teams, automate the provisioning of infrastructure and Kubernetes resources using tools like Helm, ArgoCD, and Crossplane.

You will implement CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows on OpenShift and Kubernetes platforms, collaborate with platform engineering teams to enhance developer experience, ensuring governance, compliance, and scalability.

You will also integrate external systems such as service catalogs, monitoring tools, logging solutions, and CI/CD systems into the IDP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that enables self-service capabilities for application onboarding, namespace creation, and resource management.
  • Integrate and customize developer portals (e.g., Backstage, Port) to provide a unified platform for app teams.
  • Automate the provisioning of infrastructure and Kubernetes resources using tools like Helm, ArgoCD, and Crossplane.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows on OpenShift and Kubernetes platforms.
  • Collaborate with platform engineering teams to enhance developer experience, ensuring governance, compliance, and scalability.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Kubernetes and OpenShift Expertise: Strong experience with OCP, Kubernetes architecture, operators, and custom resource definitions (CRDs).
  • Developer Portals: Hands-on experience with platforms like Backstage, Port, or similar tools for building developer experience platforms.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in Terraform, Crossplane, Helm, or similar tools for declarative resource management.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Experience with tools like Tekton, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD.
  • Programming Skills: Proficient in one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript).
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware).
  • Observability and Monitoring: Knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or similar tools.
  • API Development: Experience building APIs to integrate with IDP components and enable self-service workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with service mesh solutions (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and API gateways.
  • Familiarity with governance and policy tools (e.g., Kyverno, OPA).
  • Understanding of container security best practices (e.g., image scanning, PKI, RBAC).
  • Prior experience contributing to open-source projects related to IDP or Kubernetes.
