The Heavy Vehicle Technician is responsible for performing inspections, layouts, fabrication, and installation of new and modified Class 7 and 8 truck and trailer chassis and components. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle systems, including chassis, engine, driveline, axles, steering, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Read job orders and observe and listen to vehicles in operation to determine malfunctions and plan work procedures.
- Installation, repair, and inspection of Class 7 and 8 trucks, including chassis, engine, and driveline, axles, steering, cooling systems, cab, body, and mounting.
- Installation, repair, and inspection of vehicle hydraulic pumps, motors, and piping, including installation and testing of wet kits.
- Installation, repair, and inspection of vehicle compressed air systems, including vehicle braking, related fail-safe systems, and proper installation of lines and reservoirs.
- Vehicle control, starting, charging, and lighting systems and circuits.
- Fitting and installing steel and aluminum panels, accessories, and fenders using shears, snips, cutoff tools, rivets, and fasteners with minimal guidance.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Three years' experience in a related field.
- Appropriate manufacturer training and/or certification.
- Commercial driver's license; must be insurable.
- DOT inspection experience desirable.
