Position Overview

Extropic Corp is seeking a Software Engineering Resident focused on research and development to contribute to our innovative residency program. Our advanced hardware significantly enhances specific types of probabilistic inference, and residents will play a crucial role in developing the software necessary for designing these thermodynamic models and engineering their training processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with experienced researchers and engineers to enhance our software ecosystem.
  • Develop and implement novel algorithms aimed at simulating our thermodynamic hardware.
  • Perform tests and experiments to assess the performance of our thermodynamic models and various software solutions.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of our software infrastructure and provide internal support to researchers.
Essential Qualifications
  • Proficiency in debugging, maintaining, and deploying Python packages.
  • Experience with scientific computing in Python.
  • Strong expertise in JAX.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., git) and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub actions).
  • Ability to write and design software documentation, deploying it with standard tools (e.g., Sphinx and Read the Docs).
  • Understanding of probability theory and linear algebra.
  • Experience with infrastructure for machine learning experimentation and parallel/distributed training environments (e.g., Slurm, Weights & Biases).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Track record of contributions to open-source projects in machine learning or scientific frameworks.
  • Experience with numerical methods (e.g., solving differential equations, Monte Carlo integration, automatic differentiation).
  • Strong understanding of computational Bayesian techniques, including MCMC sampling, variational inference, and energy-based models.
  • Publications in machine learning or computational science conferences or journals.
