About the Position:

The City of Cambridge Massachusetts is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Afterschool Lead Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our Department of Human Service Programs, you will be responsible for planning and overseeing programmed activities for children enrolled in our Community Schools Afterschool programs.

Key Responsibilities:

The Afterschool Lead Instructor will work closely with the instructor and program director to deliver age-appropriate enrichment activities, social emotional learning, and build community. Specific duties include:
  • Managing the overall program and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for children.
  • Supervising and guiding other staff assigned to the classroom.
  • Developing and implementing a quality age-appropriate curriculum in a specialty area.
  • Directly supervising the safety of children.
  • Participating in all program activities and maintaining open communication with families.
  • Supervising participants during snack/lunch periods and taking daily attendance.
  • Participating in scheduled staff meetings and professional development.
  • Responsible for classroom maintenance, equipment, and supplies.
  • Reporting any out-of-the-ordinary incidents and accidents to program administrators.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience managing a Jr. K to Grade 5 classroom and a strong interest in working with children from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. First Aid and CPR certification is highly desired. Special Requirements:

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and physical and TB test required. Work Environment:

The work environment includes classroom and outdoor playgrounds and occasional field trips. The noise level is moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to run during play or responding to an emergency. Employees are frequently required to engage with children on the floor and at their eye level. Employees are frequently required to use their hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects as well as reach. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move a child.
