JOB SUMMARY

Under the guidance of supervisory staff, this role involves providing comprehensive practical experience and on-site training for students with moderate to severe disabilities, specifically those in Life Skills classrooms. The position requires collaboration with Life Skills educators to deliver services as outlined in each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Responsibilities include offering diverse training opportunities, including public transportation skills, and coaching students in job readiness and social interaction.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements marketing strategies to foster relationships with community training organizations. Conducts orientation sessions on various disability types for training site personnel and provides job coaching and employment strategies to assist high school students with developmental disabilities in acquiring employable skills as specified in their IEPs.
  • Tracks student progress on vocational IEP objectives at community-based vocational sites, utilizing anecdotal records for continuous assessment and communication with the special education Life Skills teacher. Completes necessary reports and training logs to ensure compliance with IEP vocational training hour requirements.
  • Collaborates with the special education Life Skills teacher, department chair, campus staff, regional and central offices, as well as community organizations and businesses to guarantee that vocational training services meet district, state, and federal standards.
  • Assists the vocational adjustment coordinator (VAC) in providing insights on district, state, and federal transition planning requirements for secondary students with developmental delays and supports VAC in conducting training sessions for middle and high school campuses within the region.
  • Analyzes vocational assessment data and IEP goals with the special education Life Skills teacher and performs job site evaluations to align training opportunities with the individual needs of each student.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

6 months to 1 year of relevant experience preferred.

SKILLS AND/OR REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with office equipment (e.g., computers, copiers).

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities but may provide occasional guidance and technical advice to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY AND INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Tasks are generally straightforward, routine, and structured, guided by established policies and procedures. Limited independent judgment is required, primarily involving basic choices in the application of established methods. The role receives regular supervision.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

No budget management responsibilities are associated with this position.

Decisions are made on routine matters affecting a limited number of individuals and are typically confined to the job's department. Specific activities and outcomes are closely monitored.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Responsible for addressing customer inquiries, requests, and complaints, forwarding complex issues to the appropriate level for resolution.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment is typical of an indoor office setting, free from hazardous or unpleasant conditions. The ability to lift and carry items weighing less than 15 pounds is required.
