Position Overview
The Izumi laboratory is a pioneering facility focused on translational genetic research. Our primary research areas include rare pediatric genetic disorders and autism-related diagnoses, such as CHOPS syndrome and CBX1-related syndrome. We utilize patient-derived samples alongside mouse models to conduct in-depth molecular investigations. Through advanced genomic technologies, our goal is to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of these genetic disorders, ultimately aiming to identify therapeutic strategies that can alleviate clinical symptoms.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Associate with extensive experience in molecular biology (minimum of 5 years). Candidates must possess expertise in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture and neuronal differentiation, as well as experience in handling research animals, specifically mice.
This role will also encompass responsibilities related to laboratory management, including sample coordination and collaboration with an institutional review board.
Laboratory Responsibilities
- Cell and tissue culture, primarily focusing on induced pluripotent stem cells.
- Management of mouse colonies and husbandry practices.
- Execution of fundamental molecular biology experiments, including:
- PCR and DNA extraction
- RNA extraction
- Immunoblotting
- qPCR
- Droplet digital PCR
- DNA/RNA fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH)
- CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing
- Immunohistochemistry staining
Qualifications and Education
- Ph.D. in a relevant field with no prior experience required. or
- Master’s degree in a relevant field with five (5) years of laboratory experience, including at least two (2) years at the level of Research Associate or equivalent. or
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with six (6) years of laboratory experience, including at least two (2) years at the level of Research Associate or equivalent.
Key Duties
- Organizes the laboratory operations, assigns tasks to team members, and provides guidance on techniques, procedures, and equipment to resolve work-related challenges. Reviews completed work to ensure professional quality and achievement of desired outcomes.
- Compiles and assesses research data; develops new or revised methodologies based on findings.
- Oversees the design, development, or modification of equipment or apparatus utilized in research experiments to achieve desired results.
- Analyzes research outcomes and reports findings to the principal investigator.
- Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, and other junior laboratory personnel on techniques, procedures, and equipment used in research.
- Engages with industrial, governmental, or other professional entities regarding the progress or results of research assignments.
- Assists the principal investigator and other professionals in preparing reports and publications, often taking responsibility for writing specific sections of reports or papers.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
