Job Title: English Language Learner Teacher

Job Summary:

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher will be responsible for evaluating, instructing, and increasing English language proficiency in students through the development of their knowledge, skills, and abilities in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending the English language.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a resource to classroom teachers to improve academic achievement of identified ELL students.
  • Develops and administers English language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Assists in developing instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to increase the efficacy of assignments, challenge students, and best utilize instruction time.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in the English language, including comprehension, grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, colloquialisms, communication and translation of literature.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in meetings and committees as required.
  • Advocates for the needs of the ELL students.
Requirements:
  • Must have a valid Virginia teaching license.
  • Must have or be prepared to acquire an English as a Second Language PreK - 12 endorsement.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
