As a Clinical Nurse in the Extended Care Unit, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia. This unit is designed for patients requiring a short observation period post-procedure, ensuring a smooth transition through the perioperative process.
Unit Details:
The Extended Care Unit consists of 8 beds, staffed daily, with a focus on maintaining optimal nurse-to-patient ratios as recommended by professional nursing organizations. The current staffing ratio is 1 nurse to 3-4 patients, depending on the complexity of care required.
Operational Hours:
The unit operates from Monday to Saturday, providing care during the hours of 0700 to 1900.
Patient Care Services:
This unit serves as a 'fast track' observation area for low-acuity patients who require close monitoring and efficient care. Most patients will be discharged within 23 hours, following a streamlined process for admissions identified in advance by the main recovery unit.
Admission and Discharge Criteria:
Patients are admitted based on specific criteria set by the surgical team, ensuring they are suitable for same-day discharge or observation. Care is provided to outpatients and select inpatient cases requiring a brief stay without significant medical complexities.
Professional Development:
We seek a dedicated clinician eager to enhance their skills and knowledge. You will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, managing patient care and implementing treatment plans effectively. Opportunities for mentorship and leadership development are available.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Deliver comprehensive nursing care in alignment with established protocols.
2. Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
3. Collaborate with healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes.
4. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinical documentation standards.
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required within five years of hire.
- At least one year of relevant nursing experience is necessary.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Virginia is required, along with BLS certification.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves standing for extended periods, frequent movement, and the ability to lift and maneuver patients as needed. Attention to detail and effective communication skills are essential.
Diversity Commitment:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to fostering a diverse workforce and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, regardless of background.
