This role encompasses dispensing tasks traditionally reserved for Pharmacists, thereby granting Pharmacists additional time to engage in clinical responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
(20%) Proficiently execute all duties and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician.
(20%) Chemotherapy Preparation: Oversee the Infusion Center pharmacy; manage inventory; calculate chemotherapy dosages; prepare sterile and non-sterile chemotherapy compounds in accordance with USP 797 and USP 795 standards; and conduct regular cleaning and disinfection of designated IV room areas using approved cleaning solutions.
(15%) Authorized to receive verbal orders directly from healthcare providers, including urgent requests. Capable of addressing common IV compatibility inquiries under the guidance of the on-duty pharmacist. Assess which communications require referral to a Pharmacist.
(15%) Conduct verification of 24-hour medication cart fills based on random check reports generated by automated systems.
(15%) Competently troubleshoot all pharmacy equipment, including automated dispensing systems and compounding devices.
(15%) Support the Coumadin Clinic by managing daily operations, including patient scheduling and supply ordering, while assisting the pharmacist with additional responsibilities.
Certifications and Licenses
- PHARM TECH - Pharmacy Technician Licensure
- Required Experience: New hires and transfers must possess a full or limited pharmacy technician license through the state of Michigan.
Educational Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Associate's Degree in a related field with a focus on mathematics and science.
