Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Substitute Driver to transport students to and from school in Albuquerque. As a Substitute Driver, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students, adhering to all traffic laws and NMSD policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transportation: Safely transport students to and from school, following established routes and schedules.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle, reporting any issues to the Transportation Coordinator.
  • Student Safety: Ensure students have all necessary items, including hearing aids and cochlear implants, and are aware of their surroundings at all times.
  • Communication: Notify the dispatcher of arrival and departure times, and report any student misbehavior in writing.
  • Vehicle Operations: Clean the vehicle interior and windows after each use, fill up with gas, and ensure all windows are closed and the vehicle is locked.
Requirements
  • Defensive Driver Certification: Provided by NMSD upon hiring.
  • Current NM Driver's License: Required for safe and legal operation of the vehicle.
  • Fluent in ASL: Preferred, but not required.
Additional Information

New Mexico School for the Deaf requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana, or any drug, will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
