Role Summary:

The Patcher Subject Matter Expert (SME) role concentrates on enhancing our Patcher product. With Patcher, we empower our clients to effortlessly maintain their infrastructure as code.

This is a contractual role compensated on an hourly basis. We anticipate an average workload of approximately 10-15 hours weekly, with a maximum of 20 hours depending on your availability and expertise. One of the advantages of contracting is the flexibility in scheduling.

While starting as a contractor, this position offers a pathway to full-time employment with Gruntwork as future opportunities arise, should that be of interest.

Key Responsibilities:

• Development in Golang for Patcher.
  • Patcher is designed to assist enterprise platform teams in effortlessly keeping their infrastructure updated. It features a core patching engine, a user-friendly interface for authoring 'breaking change' patches, and GitHub integration for generating and deploying patches to platform teams.
  • Your contributions will include developing new functionalities, enhancing existing features, resolving bugs, and proposing improvements for Patcher's efficiency. Ideally, you will utilize Patcher to manage your own infrastructure as code, allowing you to provide valuable insights for its enhancement.
• Exceptional Customer Support
  • Your responsibilities will also encompass participating in business-hours support within your area of expertise to:
    • Assist in resolving customer inquiries and knowledge base articles
    • Maintain up-to-date GitHub issues and external pull requests
    • Collaborate with our internal team to ensure Patcher is effectively utilized and patches are created for internal modules
    • Help organize and sustain a well-maintained GitHub Project backlog
    • Automate and document solutions to mitigate future issues for users
• Open Source Contributions
  • Engage in our open-source initiatives, including projects like Terragrunt, Terratest, cloud-nuke, bash-commons, boilerplate, and more.

Qualifications:

• A robust background in software engineering with over 5 years of experience.
• Extensive experience in Golang and Typescript.
• Familiarity with the challenges of managing Terraform, OpenTofu, and other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions at scale.
• A strong motivation to create excellent tools that alleviate the difficulties associated with upgrading critical components, such as AWS providers.
• Proficient communication skills in English, with comfort in engaging with external clients.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule averaging 10-20 hours per week, available for approximately 48 weeks each year.
• Ability to respond to support and maintenance requests within a 1-2 business day service level agreement.
• A preference for automation over repetitive tasks, valuing efficiency.
• Proficiency in writing Golang, Typescript, and Bash is advantageous.
