Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Specialist to provide therapeutic interventions, assessment, evaluation, and disposition services for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with psychiatric concerns or illness.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field, and be licensed as a Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment, evaluation, and disposition services for patients with psychiatric concerns or illness.
  • Coordinate admissions to inpatient psychiatric units and ensure accurate documentation to clinically substantiate the recommended level of care.
  • Communicate effectively with treating physicians, nurses, and community-based resources to ensure appropriate care.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive documentation and ongoing assessments while patients are in the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in the management of aggressive patients as needed to ensure the safety of patient, self, and others.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Licensed as a Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
  • 1-2 years' experience in the assessment and disposition of behavioral health disorders.
