We are currently seeking a knowledgeable instructor to take on the role of Mexico Course Coordinator, supporting the Area Studies Division at the Foreign Service Institute.
Course ObjectiveThe course aims to equip foreign affairs professionals with the necessary area knowledge to effectively engage with Mexico. Participants will gain insights into the historical and cultural dynamics that have shaped modern Mexico, as well as the contemporary social, economic, and political challenges the nation faces. The curriculum will also cover U.S. policies related to key issues in U.S.-Mexico relations.
Course StructureThis program spans 5 consecutive days for a Subregional course and 5 non-consecutive days for an Area Studies language course, with multiple sessions scheduled throughout the year. The selected instructor may also be called upon to facilitate additional courses in the future.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee, organize, and deliver the course, either virtually or in-person.
- Ensure course delivery aligns with Area Studies instructional standards and responds to guidance from leadership.
- Utilize FSI-provided templates and branding for all course materials to maintain a consistent learning experience.
- Present lectures remotely and be prepared to step in for any scheduled speaker if necessary.
- Lead class discussions and introduce guest lecturers.
- Employ a variety of engaging teaching methods to foster effective learning in an online environment.
- Identify and invite qualified guest speakers from relevant fields, ensuring proper approval and management of honoraria.
- Maintain up-to-date course materials and ensure they are ready prior to each session.
- Conduct planning and review meetings with the Area Studies Chair to enhance course delivery.
- Coordinate with support staff to ensure the online classroom is adequately prepared.
- Encourage students to complete course evaluations to gather feedback.
- PhD preferred; Master's degree required.
- Demonstrated expertise in the region, evidenced by publications, media presence, or teaching experience.
- Experience in instructional design and engaging adult learners through dynamic teaching methods.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
- Proficient in creating error-free course materials using FSI templates.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms is essential.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in the local language is a plus.
