Position Overview

The Infection Control Preventionist Level II plays a crucial role in the monitoring and management of infection control protocols within our healthcare facilities. This position involves conducting comprehensive surveillance, investigation, and reporting on infectious diseases and ensuring compliance with established standards. The Infection Control Preventionist collaborates with various departments to foster a culture of safety and enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct ongoing surveillance and prevention activities to identify and mitigate outbreaks of infections and communicable diseases, utilizing epidemiological methods.
2. Lead investigations into infection outbreaks and contribute to initiatives aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections.
3. Identify areas for improvement based on data analysis and implement evidence-based interventions.
4. Build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and leadership across departments.
5. Review and implement guidelines from relevant regulatory bodies and ensure readiness for accreditation surveys.
6. Mentor junior infection prevention staff and oversee their work.
7. Serve as a super-user for infection surveillance applications and participate in related meetings.
8. Develop and deliver educational programs on infection prevention and assess their effectiveness.
9. Collaborate with community health organizations and other infection prevention professionals.
10. Assist in the preparation of the annual Infection Prevention Program Risk Assessment and Plan.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned, including responding to urgent infection prevention inquiries outside of regular hours.

Qualifications

To qualify for Level II, candidates must possess:
1. A Master's degree in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Nursing, or a related field, along with three years of relevant clinical experience; or
2. A Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned disciplines with four years of relevant experience.
3. A current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) can substitute for two years of experience, with the requirement to obtain a CIC within three years of appointment.
