JOB OVERVIEW
  • Delivers essential patient support within the Nursing Unit. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager or Resource Nurse to ensure the smooth operation of the Unit. Fosters positive interactions with the public through courteous service.
  • Executes duties related to the functioning of the Nursing Unit and patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Duties

*Exhibits a dedication to the mission of Swedish Medical Center, demonstrating a service-oriented approach while adhering to all responsibilities and standards of the organization.

  1. Responds promptly to patients' call signals.
  2. Assists in the orientation process for new CNAs.
  3. May be reassigned to different areas to support patient care as directed by the Nurse Manager, Staffing Supervisor, or Nursing Supervisor.
  4. Conducts patient care tasks as instructed.
  5. Ensures a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
Additional Duties
  1. Performs other related tasks as assigned or requested.
PATIENT CARE/AGE-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

CNAs working in specialized areas must possess knowledge of procedures specific to that patient demographic, including age-specific requirements. For instance, CNAs working with pediatric patients will receive training related to the needs of children and adolescents. Each unit is responsible for providing specific training and credentialing.

QUALIFICATIONS AND BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete a structured orientation program at Swedish Medical Center.
  • Preferred one year of experience as a Nursing Assistant or in a comparable role; CNA certification required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Capacity to manage stress effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriately.
  • Must possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal), be organized, and self-motivated.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification through the state of Illinois.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

CONTACTS
  • First point of contact for visitors and medical staff.
  • Daily interactions with patients, nursing staff, and personnel from other departments.
  • Telephone communications for all inquiries related to the Unit.
  • Engagement with relatives of patients.
  • Handling of patient care-related equipment.
ACCESS TO PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATION

Access to the Nursing Division's computer systems is granted based on specified criteria and the principle of minimum necessary access. Approval for access levels is provided by the system administrator or the department responsible for the system/module.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • May require prolonged periods of standing and mobility.
  • May involve lifting heavy objects.
  • Use of computer systems.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, airborne pathogens, blood, and bodily fluids.
  • Risk of injury from aggressive patients.
