Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Transit Mechanic and Transportation management, the successful candidate will support the upkeep and servicing of transit buses and other designated vehicles. Responsibilities include assisting in diagnosing and repairing vehicles, as well as ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in diagnosing and identifying mechanical issues in transit vehicles.
- Understand the operation and advantages of various machines and tools.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on fleet vehicles as required.
- Transport vehicles, equipment, and supplies to and from work areas on a daily basis.
- Help inspect and evaluate the transportation fleet to ensure vehicles are clean, safe, and fully operational.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, including washing and cleaning tasks.
- Engage in physical activities such as moving, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and using limbs.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, and other management personnel.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires physical effort including walking, lifting (up to 75 pounds), standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, assisting customers, and securing mobility devices.
Knowledge and Skills:
Willingness to learn diagnostic techniques for identifying mechanical faults, either manually, visually, or using technology. Must possess necessary hand tools and equipment for tasks. A strong attendance record is essential. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is required. Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, along with the capacity to quickly learn and anticipate mechanical issues, are necessary. A positive and professional work environment must be maintained.
Qualifications:
1. Valid Driver's license with a clean driving record.
2. Ability to obtain a valid Arizona commercial driver's license (Class B) with passenger endorsement within 18 months.
3. High school diploma or GED.
4. Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination is required.
Working Conditions:
Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must be available to work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays. Position involves sitting for extended periods with continuous movement of head, arms, hands, and feet. The role requires working indoors in a shop environment and outdoors for extended durations, regardless of weather conditions.
