Job Summary

As a Staff Psychiatrist Inpatient Specialist at the University of Texas Medical Branch, you will provide direct psychiatric care to offenders assigned to inpatient facilities within the UTMB sector of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct psychiatric care to assigned patients, including conducting psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations.
  • Participate in civil commitment proceedings for mentally ill patients being released from the TDCJ.
  • Conduct clinical supervision of psychiatric mid-level practitioners as assigned by the clinical director.
  • Participate in due process proceedings for voluntary admission and compelled psychoactive medication.
  • Work effectively with all CMS and UR processes and personnel.
Requirements
  • Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center environment.
