Position Overview:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for assessing the dietary needs of patients and residents, devising suitable interventions based on their medical and nutritional conditions. This role includes providing nutritional education to patients and their families, ensuring compliance with the standards set by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and adhering to the regulations of the Joint Commission, CMA, and state health authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient nutritional status and its effects on health conditions, utilizing current Medical Nutrition Therapy practices.
  • Create tailored care plans to address nutritional deficiencies and promote optimal health outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on dietary strategies for post-discharge care.
  • Collaborate as a vital member of the healthcare team through participation in discharge rounds and regular communication with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence by enhancing patient satisfaction and improving clinical competencies.
  • Complete life-span education as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required for graduates prior to 2024; Master's Degree required for graduates from 2024 onward.
  • Degree must qualify for AND membership and registration, including completion of an accredited internship or coordinated program covering therapeutic and administrative topics.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a hospital setting.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

Required Skills:
Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration with all members of the healthcare team.
