Position Summary

The role of the shipping and receiving clerk involves verifying and maintaining records for incoming and outgoing shipments while preparing items for dispatch. This position is crucial in ensuring adherence to quality and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, unpack, and route incoming shipments; reject damaged items, document shortages, and communicate with shippers to resolve issues.
  • Manage inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Facilitate the shipment of produced goods and received supplies necessary for production/storage of items for sale.
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure a consistent supply of shipping materials is maintained.
  • Keep the work area and equipment clean and orderly, adhering to safety regulations.
  • Operate lift trucks or hand trucks to transport materials to designated areas.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong self-motivation and professionalism.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
  • Team-oriented with excellent communication skills (oral, written, phone, electronic).
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience in a shipping and receiving role.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English, following verbal instructions, and performing basic math.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Preferred: Licensed forklift operator with 1-3 years of relevant experience in a metal manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Work Environment

This position may expose employees to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment can be high.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role include regular communication, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. Employees must frequently lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
