Key Responsibilities
1. Maintain professional and technical expertise by participating in educational workshops, reviewing professional literature, establishing networks, and engaging in professional organizations.
2. Ensure high-quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards, evaluating health outcomes against care goals, making necessary adjustments, and complying with hospital and nursing division standards as mandated by regulatory bodies.
3. Safeguard patients and staff by following infection control protocols, medication administration guidelines, and regulations regarding controlled substances.
4. Document patient care services meticulously in both patient and departmental records.
5. Foster continuity among nursing teams by effectively communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs using established communication techniques.
6. Uphold patient confidentiality and protect operational integrity by safeguarding sensitive information.
7. Identify patient care needs by building rapport with patients and their families, ensuring a compassionate environment that provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
8. Promote patient autonomy by setting care goals, educating patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care practices, and addressing inquiries.
9. Maintain a safe and organized work environment by adhering to established procedures and regulations, and seeking assistance from healthcare support personnel when necessary.
10. Address patient concerns and needs through collaborative strategies with multidisciplinary teams.
11. Contribute to team efforts by achieving related outcomes as required.
12. Ensure the functionality of medical equipment by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating repairs as needed.
13. Manage nursing supplies inventory by monitoring stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipt of supplies.
Demonstrates proficiency in interpreting and managing arrhythmias in critical care settings.
Reviews cardiac rhythm strips and administers appropriate treatments as per established protocols.
Engages in other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program is required.
2. Strong leadership, organizational, and critical thinking skills, along with sound judgment and knowledge of nursing legalities.
3. Excellent communication skills to convey complex topics to diverse audiences.
4. A nursing refresher course may be necessary if the candidate has not worked in an acute care environment for the past three consecutive years.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
2. Experience in Critical Care and Open Heart settings.
3. Minimum of one year of Med/Surg or PCU experience.
Licensure and Certifications
1. Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Pennsylvania is required.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
3. Compliance with Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance requirements.
4. Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or completion within one year of hire.
5. NIH Stroke Scale certification within six months of hire.
Work Environment
This position does not involve direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a mentor for other staff members. The incumbent will be scheduled based on operational needs, which may include rotating shifts and on-call duties. Local travel between healthcare facilities may be required.
