Position Overview
The role entails inspecting materials and products to confirm they meet internal specifications and external standards. This detail-oriented position demands a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and extensive knowledge of product specifications and testing protocols. Quality Control Specialists collaborate with manufacturing teams, maintain records of defective materials, and ensure that non-conforming parts are addressed appropriately. They also communicate findings to team members to tackle ongoing quality challenges and pinpoint areas needing improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce company and regulatory quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct, document, and assess chemical and physical tests essential for controlling production processes or evaluating the quality of in-process and finished products.
- Review and audit product quality data following established procedures.
- Manage compliant and nonconformance processes through effective record-keeping and tracking systems, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Report any deviations from quality standards to the immediate supervisor and shift foreman.
- Develop and implement quality control protocols.
- Create or revise procedures for documenting, investigating, and addressing product complaints.
- Investigate product quality issues and ensure resolution in line with company guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Ensure that operational practices align with standard practice data.
- Provide technical support to department heads for project and experimental tasks.
- Identify all rejected materials and assist in their reclassification and resolution.
- Offer technical assistance for experimental and project work by documenting and correlating operational data and results.
- Suggest enhancements in processes, standard practices, and product evaluations.
- Conduct process audits as dictated by operational procedures and job practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in metallurgy, chemistry, or a related field; five years of experience in Quality Assurance, preferably within industrial manufacturing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity with quality assurance terminology, methodologies, and tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Language Skills: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Able to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills: Competent in working with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Able to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical scenarios.
- Reasoning Skills: Capable of defining problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Able to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage several abstract and concrete variables.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, and Database software.
