Position: Structural Steel Project Manager

Role Summary: We are in search of a dedicated and skilled Project Manager with extensive experience in the structural steel sector. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in steel fabrication and erection, demonstrating a history of effectively managing significant projects from start to finish. The Project Manager will oversee all facets of project delivery, ensuring that each project is executed safely, punctually, and within financial constraints while upholding the highest quality standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead Kickoff meetings post-project award to ensure seamless information transfer from Estimating to the Production Team.
  • Create and maintain a Job Folder, ensuring all relevant information from Estimating is accurately compiled.
  • Facilitate the transition to the designated Detailing Firm, ensuring they receive all necessary details, including the Scope of Work, Means & Methods, Project Sequencing, and Cost Codes.
  • Ensure that all Joist, Deck, Buyouts, and Subcontractors have received Purchase Orders or are informed of any pending actions.
  • Identify key stakeholders representing the General Contractor and Project Schedule, distributing relevant information to the S&H team.
  • Submit all essential documents at the project’s outset, including Safety Documentation, Welding Certificates, and Hazard Communication.
  • Ensure all ASIs and updates to contract drawings are received, organized, and shared with all relevant parties.
  • Establish and communicate the Detailing Schedule.
  • Draft, submit, and track Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary.
  • Accurately track and submit all packages received from Detailers and Subcontractors to the General Contractor and other involved parties.
  • Oversee the creation of all required Coordination Drawings to ensure the accuracy of S&H's drawings and identify potential cost implications.
  • Maintain records of all Coordination Drawings.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of all returned submittals and RFIs to ensure compliance with Contract Documents and identify any discrepancies.
  • Recognize potential cost implications and manage the creation, submission, tracking, and filing of all Change Orders (CORs).
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all CORs and follow up as necessary.
  • Supervise the receipt of BFS drawings, ensuring accurate filing in the Job Folder and keeping FabSuite/Tekla EPM updated.
  • Manage all shop releases for fabrication, ensuring the shop receives accurate phasing to maintain efficient operations.
  • Procure all Field Bolts and Hardware required for the project, ensuring compliance with Contract Documents.
  • Identify and set on-site dates, ensuring readiness for steel delivery.
  • Coordinate closely with the Field Superintendent to ensure proper manpower allocation and equipment scheduling.
  • Communicate all dates, deliveries, and mobilizations to the General Contractor and ensure mutual understanding among all parties.
  • Participate in schedule and site meetings for all projects to prevent miscommunications.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly Job Status Reports, presenting all relevant information in production meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team on monthly Work In Progress (WIP) reports, accurately projecting Estimated Costs to Complete for all projects.
  • Upon project completion, organize a Job Closeout Meeting to review the project and share lessons learned with the Production Team, Purchasing, and Estimating for future projects.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of project management experience in the steel fabrication and erection industry.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale steel fabrication and erection projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in project management software and tools.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as necessary.
