GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Under the guidance of the Chief Operations Officer, the Substance Use Screening Technician will conduct drug testing for clients involved in the treatment program. The technician will adhere to all established protocols for drug testing as outlined in the organization’s policy manual. It is imperative that all documentation is completed in accordance with agency policies, ensuring proper chain of custody for all samples collected, recorded, tested, and sent for laboratory confirmation as necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop a schedule for random testing and ensure it is accessible to all relevant individuals.
  2. Manage inventory and assist with supply procurement.
  3. Complete all necessary paperwork and logs related to the client's substance use testing.
  4. Welcome clients with respect as they arrive for testing and escort them from the waiting area to the testing location.
  5. Conduct substance use testing in compliance with organizational policies, including sample collection, result recording, and preparation for confirmation testing while ensuring chain of custody is maintained.
  6. Monitor clients during drug screens to guarantee sample integrity.
  7. Communicate any significant observations or issues to clinical or supervisory staff, ensuring proper documentation of any incidents requiring reporting.
  8. Foster positive working relationships with team members and external partners.
  9. Assist in the upkeep of drug testing documentation and necessary equipment, ensuring the testing area is orderly and well-maintained.
  10. Record drug test results in the appropriate software system.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Knowledge and skills obtained through the completion of a high school education.
  2. Ability to maintain accurate records.
  3. Strong organizational skills.
  4. Capacity to interact with a diverse population.
  5. Good oral and written communication skills.
