About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Maintenance Technician I or II to join our team at Duke Energy. As a key member of our fleet maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on utility vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform regular inspections and maintenance on light and medium-duty vehicles, equipment, and aerial devices to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Diagnose and repair issues with vehicles, equipment, and aerial devices, including hydraulic systems, electric systems, and other components.
  • Inspections and Testing: Conduct regular inspections and testing of vehicles, equipment, and aerial devices to ensure they meet safety and regulatory standards.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other team members, including higher classification technicians, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree or certificate in auto, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanics from a vocational school.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience, depending on the level of the position.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Ability to obtain a Class A CDL license within 6 months of hire date.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills, including knowledge of hydraulic systems, electric systems, and other components. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electric Utility Fleet Experience: Previous experience working with electric utility fleets.
  • Basic Hydraulic Experience: Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems and components.
  • ASE Certifications: ASE certifications in areas such as brakes, suspension, and steering.
  • AWS Welding Certifications: AWS welding certifications.
  • National Fluid Power Certification: National Fluid Power certification.
  • Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with peers, customers, and management.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for extended periods, lift and/or push at least 100lbs, and carry at least 50lbs a distance of at least 25 feet.
  • Environmental Factors: Must be able to work in a garage environment with associated noise, fumes, and dust, and tolerate heights in aerial devices.
