Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the coordination of care to address the identified needs of patients and their families.
Supervise patient care management by utilizing critical thinking and the nursing process, including discharge planning, resource identification, and scheduling patients with necessary services. Advocate for patients while monitoring care delivery and evaluating outcomes.
Facilitate patient care across the healthcare continuum, assisting team members in addressing individual patient needs.The PACU RN is responsible for the focused observation and care of patients of all ages during the immediate post-anesthesia period, collaborating with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure seamless transitions to appropriate departments.
Flexibility in working hours may be required.Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) may be accepted if the candidate is enrolled in a BSN program with completion expected within two years of hire or transfer to an RN position.
Submission of diploma or transcripts for the highest degree earned is mandatory.Experience and Training:
A minimum of one year of current experience in an acute care setting is required, with two years preferred. Experience in Critical Care, PACU, and Trauma Center is highly desirable.
Candidates must successfully complete the Basic Dysrhythmia course curriculum within 21 days of hire. Basic computer skills and familiarity with computerized documentation systems are essential.
Licenses and Certifications:
Required:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
Preferred:
Current unrestricted Certified Post-Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or related certification.
Essential Skills:
- Exhibit proficiency in delivering care through an advanced understanding of cardiovascular, neuro, respiratory, and metabolic issues relevant to individual patients.
- Guide patients toward discharge by adhering to established discharge criteria, including but not limited to stable vital signs and effective pain management.
- Communicate effectively with physicians regarding any patient status changes that may affect recovery.
- Accompany patients during transfers, providing comprehensive reports using the appropriate hand-off format.
- Demonstrate the ability to assist with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).
- Maintain annual competencies through skills validation and self-study, participating in code blue drills every twelve months.
- Stay informed about Joint Commission requirements and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Commit to customer service standards by offering information to patients, visitors, colleagues, and physicians in a friendly and courteous manner.
