Position Overview
The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of innovative technology strategies for manufacturing process automation. This role plays a crucial part in driving cost-effective and sustainable solutions to transform manufacturing processes.
This professional will leverage their technical knowledge to establish enterprise standards and work collaboratively with IT departments to create reliable and scalable manufacturing IT/OT system architectures.
This position also involves utilizing product, process, application, and technical expertise to represent the organization externally at industry associations and regulatory forums, influencing the evolution of industry codes and standards, customer engagement, and market trends that impact future business segments.

Technology Strategy Development and Execution (30%)
- Participates in project planning teams to pinpoint automation opportunities.

- Establishes factory and laboratory demonstrations of robotics and automation solutions that can be scaled for operations.
- Understands automation performance metrics and leverages digital capabilities for reporting.
- Introduces new or enhances existing automation solutions in production lines to improve processes through technology.
- Addresses enterprise-wide platform and technology requirements for applications.
- Provides technology support for the automation portfolio and utilizes assets to foster growth in established markets.
- Builds effective partnerships across the organization, including Science & Technology, IT, and Operations.
- Collaborates on the creation of automation, controls, and IT/OT standards.
- Applies mechatronic solutions for the transfer of materials and components.

- Employs Open Innovation and Lean Startup methodologies to establish the organization as a preferred partner for technology commercialization.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in automation technology development and deployment.
- In-depth knowledge of sensors, robotics, IT/OT systems, and various controls for automated systems.
- Expertise in process integration and mechatronic systems.
Preferred Experience:
- Advanced degree in science or engineering.
- Strong background in process development or product innovation.
- Technical experience in manufacturing or deploying automation with a comprehensive understanding of current technologies.
- Experience in developing specific automation manufacturing systems with flexible and modular automation.
- Knowledge of industry trends and standards guiding new technology offerings.
- Proficiency in PLC programming.
- Ability to perform system design, programming, simulation, and testing.
