Pain Management Nurse Clinician Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pain Management Nurse Clinician to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to pediatric patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Implement and support the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies, and procedures of Children's Hospital and the Patient Care Services Division.
  • Perform care coordination core functions, including screening and identification of patients, establishment of therapeutic relationships, assessment of patient and family strengths and needs, development of family-centered plans of care, procurement and coordination of services, and monitoring and evaluation of progress.
  • Facilitate patient and family education and empowerment, promoting return to the highest level of wellness possible.
  • Assess child and family needs for care coordination, identifying appropriate resources to facilitate continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate and mobilize healthcare and community resources to meet the needs of patients and their families through referral, consultation, education, and/or care conferences.
  • Participate in clinical guidelines and outcome indicators for a given population, analyzing patient and aggregate variances and recommending changes to improve outcomes.
  • Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in identifying learning needs, planning for, and providing instruction in the care of patients and their families across the continuum.
  • Provide consultation for clinical practice and program development within areas of expertise.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison between Nationwide Children's Hospital and the community regarding healthcare information in the area of specialization.
  • Participate in product identification, evaluation, and clinical testing in areas of clinical specialization.
  • Participate in the evaluation of peers for recognition and development.
  • Provide and recommend input for policy and procedure development for the Hospital and Patient Care Services Division in areas of expertise.
  • Analyze clinical trends and data to identify patterns for continuous quality improvement studies, research development, and/or evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to establish and/or maintain program goals and program budget as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the medical record of assessments, patient plans, interventions, and patient response to intervention, and education provided to patients and families.
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate in meeting patient or family needs.
  • Actively pursue education and knowledge related to the nursing profession and areas of expertise.
  • Maintain awareness of research affecting patient populations in areas of specialization, evaluating and implementing evidence-based practice as appropriate.
  • Identify need for plans and/or provide continuing education programs in areas of specialization and develop/coordinate appropriate educational resources.
  • Participate in orientation and continuing education of practitioners, staff, and students as appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing education related to information technology requirements for the department needed to perform job functions.
  • Facilitate and coordinate ongoing educational needs of patients and families.
  • Mentor clinical staff to foster their personal and professional growth.
  • Support and advance nursing practice through one or more of the following: participating as a conference speaker/presenter, presenting to community groups, participating in professional organizations and activities, participating on committees, task forces, and advisory boards, participating on quality teams, participating in scholarly activities, and publishing in journals and newsletters.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio required.
  • BSN required.
  • Clinical skill and knowledge in the nursing care of children, including normal growth and development, and/or clinical expertise in specialized areas required.
  • Three years related clinical experience in areas of specialty desirable.
  • Effective customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teaching abilities required.
  • Professionally appropriate analytical and organizational skills required.
