Position Overview: Machinist II / Model Maker II

Role Summary

We are in search of a proficient Model Maker II to contribute to our Research and Development division. This role involves the creation of various component iterations for assessment and testing, crafting hand tool prototypes with exact specifications, and engaging with interdisciplinary teams to produce superior prototypes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Test Lab Supervisor in managing Model Shop machinery, workload, and ensuring timely project completion.
  • Produce high-quality prototypes for design validation and operational testing.
  • Collaborate effectively with project teams to maintain alignment with program timelines.
  • Coordinate with external vendors on intricate projects and assess the need for outsourcing.
  • Operate and program 3 & 5 Axis CNC mills, wire EDM machines, and manual tools such as mills, lathes, and grinders for the fabrication of complex prototypes and test components.
  • Employ various Rapid Prototyping techniques and tools, including 3D printing technologies.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, SmartSheet, and CAD/CAM software (such as Creo and Hypermill) in daily operations.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of model shop equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain a tidy and efficient workspace following 6S principles.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach with a strong sense of urgency.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in CNC Machining, Computer Integrated Machining, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, SmartSheet, and CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience with wire EDM machinery.
  • Strong understanding of 3-axis technology and CNC programming, including G & M codes.
  • Ability to perform precise measurements on machined components for quality assurance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials commonly used in tool and prototype fabrication.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and specifications, including tolerancing.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently.
  • Detail-oriented team player adept at meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities essential for successful project completion.
  • Strong focus on detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
