Job Summary

The Manufacturing Manager position at ABEC is a critical role that oversees the production process, ensuring timely deliveries, high quality, and improved production efficiencies. This position reports to the VP - Global Services and Springfield Manufacturing and is responsible for maintaining a work environment that fosters long-term employee satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise production line flow, including testing and adjusting staffing and equipment to ensure production starts and stays on schedule.
  • Manage all production activities performed by manufacturing personnel, maintaining a high degree of visibility and access to staff throughout shifts.
  • Evaluate manufacturing operations to determine improvements through effective metrics, capital, personnel, and operational standards.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the manufacturing process.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control to maintain quality standards and take corrective action measures to resolve deficiencies.
  • Work with the scheduler to ensure staffing is aligned with business needs.
  • Train, motivate, coach, reward, and discipline staff, resolving issues within the manufacturing area to ensure all employees work as a team.
  • Take an active role in people development, including developing next-line leadership.
  • Enforce all safety policies and ensure manufacturing staff attends required safety training, investigating accidents in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Resolve production-related issues with representatives from other departments throughout the company.
  • Assign duties and monitor the quality of work, ensuring employees conform to organizational policies and procedures while meeting state and federal employment and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of manufacturing equipment and machinery, ensuring it meets production needs.
  • Proactively identify potential barriers and propose solutions without impeding production.
  • Establish departmental goals and objectives through strategic planning.
  • Play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement strategies and opportunities, empowering, training, and supporting the team to participate in CI opportunities.
  • Directly supervise employees within the manufacturing department.
  • Carry out management and supervisory tasks in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Responsible for all interviewing, hiring, and training of employees, including planning, assigning, and directing manufacturing tasks, appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees.
  • Address complaints or questions specific to manufacturing processes and personnel, proposing viable solutions.
  • Perform any other duties and/or tasks assigned.
  • Ability to travel when required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, technical degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Experience with capacity planning from a people and equipment perspective.
  • Able to train and motivate employees to create quality product, increase KPIs, and grow the profitability of this plant.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Must be flexible, innovative, and comfortable setting own priorities.
  • Polished presentation, business acumen, and facilitation skills.
  • Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50lb.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement or lean manufacturing a plus.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement a plus.
  • Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus.
