Job Overview

Position Title: Project Engineer

Company: Smartwork IT Services

Employment Type: Full-time, On-site

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Superintendent, and subcontractors to collect data and create daily and weekly project timelines.
  • Adjust material requirements based on project timelines and relay these requirements to suppliers.
  • Examine plans and specifications to establish cost coding for labor, equipment, materials, and transportation.
  • Handle submittals, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and payment estimate information.
  • Gather and assess daily trucking logs, material summaries, and tickets from the job site.
  • Assist the job superintendent in verifying timecards to ensure precise cost coding.
  • Support the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager in meeting preparations and reviewing job cost reports.
  • Participate in and document weekly subcontractor and progress meetings.
Additional Duties
  • Execute various tasks as directed by the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
  • Be available during winter months to oversee snow removal operations outside of standard working hours.
Required Skills & Expertise
  • Fundamental ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
Preferred Skills & Expertise
  • Experience in heavy highway construction, gained through internships or previous employment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint, Access, Bluebeam Revu, Oracle P6, Viewpoint Vista, HCSS Heavy Bid, and Heavy Job.
  • Training in GPS surveying.
Education & Certifications
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, General Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • PMP certification is advantageous.
Physical Requirements
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 12 hours per day with breaks.
  • Frequent stooping and climbing abilities.
  • Capacity to walk on uneven terrain regularly at job sites.
  • Ability to drive long distances as needed.
