Position Overview:
We are looking for a seasoned AI Trust and Safety Research Scientist to lead our mission in creating safe, ethical, and dependable AI systems. In this position, you will collaborate closely with our product and research teams to ensure that our foundational models, including large language and multimodal systems, meet the highest standards of safety, integrity, and utility. Your contributions will be vital in guiding the responsible development and implementation of AI technologies that can have a positive impact on millions of lives across India and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Partner with the product team to define and execute safety protocols that guarantee our AI models produce helpful, truthful, and non-harmful outputs.
2. Spearhead the creation and application of advanced safety methodologies for large language and multimodal models, utilizing techniques such as Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), Direct Preference Optimization (DPO), and Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO).
3. Conduct comprehensive red teaming exercises to uncover potential vulnerabilities and ensure our models do not generate harmful or undesirable outputs.
4. Design and supervise the creation of high-quality synthetic datasets for model fine-tuning to enhance safety and performance.
5. Lead research projects focused on AI safety, particularly for models with tens and hundreds of billions of parameters.
6. Innovate evaluation methodologies to assess and mitigate risks associated with large-scale AI models.
7. Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI ethics and safety, contributing to the scientific community through publications and presentations at conferences.
8. Mentor and support junior researchers in understanding AI safety principles and practices.
9. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate safety measures throughout the AI development lifecycle.
Qualifications:
1. M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline with a focus on AI safety and ethics.
2. Over 4 years of experience in AI research, particularly emphasizing trust and safety in large language models and multimodal systems.
3. Proven expertise in implementing advanced safety techniques such as RLHF, DPO, and PPO for foundational models.
4. Demonstrated experience in building or fine-tuning models with tens and hundreds of billions of parameters.
5. Strong foundation in red teaming methodologies and adversarial testing for AI systems.
6. Experience in generating and utilizing high-quality synthetic data for model fine-tuning.
7. Comprehensive understanding of ethical considerations in AI development and deployment.
8. Proficient programming skills, especially in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
9. Strong publication history in leading AI conferences and journals, particularly in areas related to AI safety and ethics.
10. Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
11. Experience in leading research teams and mentoring junior researchers.
12. Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and industry standards concerning AI ethics and safety.
